Governor Ron DeSantis has again recognized the contributions and importance of School Crossing Guards by signing a Proclamation declaring February 4, 2022 as Crossing Guard Appreciation Day in Florida.
“We are proud to stand with Governor DeSantis and say ‘Thank you’ to our School Crossing Guards. They provide a valuable service to our community by making things safer for our children as they go to and from school each day. The next time you see a Crossing Guard, give them a wave and thank them for their service - I know they'll appreciate it!” – Grady Judd, Sheriff
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office provides School Crossing Guard services through funds provided by the Polk County Board of County Commissioners. This vital program places adult crossing guards at selected hazardous school crossings to ensure the safety of our elementary school children walking to and from school.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office employs 130 part-time crossing guards and 36 substitutes who are assigned to 124 Polk County School Crossings.
